There's something so charming to me about sci-fi that reads closer to modern literature. I am curious though, does this universe branch off from our real-world timeline? (like, does the story follow everything that happened in our own human history? Or is it its own universe like Star Wars?) I don't know why, but I just have a fondness for stories that do that.
