Nim has never been able to hold down a job. Every piece of technology she touches mysteriously fails, leaving her with a trail of ruined electronics, frustrated employers, and the sinking feeling that something is deeply wrong with her.
Then an ESA agent arrives at her apartment, asking questions no stranger should know to ask.
Certain he’s closing in on the truth she’s spent her life trying to ignore, Nim runs. But her escape goes spectacularly wrong when she accidentally stows away aboard Makepeace—one of the most infamous raider ships in the galaxy.
Surrounded by hardened pirates, outlaws, and mercenaries, Nim expects to be thrown out an airlock. Instead, she finds reluctant allies in the ship’s kindhearted medic, Ollie, while constantly clashing with the ruthless first mate, Korro. Looming over them, all is the ship’s intimidating cyborg captain, whose past hides secrets that are somehow intertwined with Nim’s own.
As the ESA closes in and the truth behind her impossible curse begins to unravel, Nim must decide who she can trust before the answers, she’s spent her life running from destroy not only her—but everyone aboard Makepeace.
